Abstract
This paper focuses on analysing the temperature variation to characterise the thermodynamic entropy generation on magnesium alloy based on the dissipation of energy. The increasing temperature during the cyclic loading is associated with the plastic and anelastic deformation of the component or specimen. Hence, a model of dissipative energy for fatigue crack growth rate is developed, also with consideration of different stress ratios. Compact-tension tests were applied with different stress ratios of 0.1, 0.4, and 0.7 to the specimen. During the tests, the evolution of temperature was also observed. The results show that linear scale factors of fatigue crack growth and dissipative energy for the three stress ratios are 0.0047, 0.0063 and 0.0096. Therefore, the fatigue crack growth can be well characterised by the dissipation of energy during a cyclic test. Keywords -Fatigue Crack Growth, Energy Dissipation, Temperature Evolution.
