Abstract
In this study, model reference adaptive control(MRAC) using MIT rule and proportional integral derivative (PID) controllers are used to control speed for current controlled DC motor system. The plant of the system is modeled mathematically and MRAC and proportinal integral derivative (PID) controllers are designed and simulated using Matlab/Simulink tool. In this application, genetic algorithm (GA) optimization method is employed to obtain best values for PID gain parameters. The time response of MRAC and GAPID controllers is presented and then compared based on the standard control criteria which includes rising time, settling time, overshoot and steady-state error parameters. Finally, simulation results reveal that the PID controller based on GA optimization method can be employed to synthesis an efficient speed control scheme for DC motor.
