Abstract
In this paper hazard avoidance for the soft-landing of a lunar lander is proposed. It is done in two phases - Hazard detection and Guidance of the lander. The hazard detection is done by using shape from shading technique to obtain the digital terrain model. The lander is allowed soft-land at the selected new landing site by means of a guidance law, so as to minimize the rate of change of commanded acceleration of the lunar lander. Accurate soft-landing at the desired landing site is validated by extensive simulations for the proposed method.
