Abstract
Management of energy devaluation in combustion equipments is an essential requirement for fuel savings. From a thermodynamic point of view, energy devaluation results from entropy generation. As engineering furnaces usually employ swirling burners, it is reasonable to investigate how the use of swirling air flow affects thermodynamic performance in such systems. This study shows that the combustion air swirl angle can be use as an effective parameter for managing the impact of entropy generation in furnaces, provided that its selection is based on the fuel-air equivalence ratio. In this study we also assess the role of radiation heat transfer, because this matter has generally been neglected op to now. Keywords- Combustion, Swirl Angle, Energy Devaluation, Thermal Radiation.
