Abstract
A modified analytical Shear lag model is used for the evaluation of the interfacial shear and peeling stresses in a cracked bi-material element composed of two elastic plates from Alumina and Aluminium. The plates are bonded together by an interfacial zero thickness adhesive material and subjected to thermal loading. The “peeling” stress can be determined from the interfacial shear stress and is proportional to deflections of the thinner plate of the structure. The interface is assumed to exhibit brittle failure at a critical shear stress value. The analytical solution and results for the length of the debonding and intact zones and interfacial shear and peeling stresses considering given material properties and thermal loading are discussed and illustrated in figures for two different adhesives. Keywords- Adhesively Bonded Cracked Bi-material Structure, Thermal Loading, Interfacial Thermal Stresses.
