Abstract
We present in this work a study of the frictional behaviorof the dry sliding contact graphite-copper by using the method of experimental designs. Using Taguchi method, the design of experiments based upon L8 orthogonal arrays was used.To accomplish this, a pin-on-disc tribometer was employed. The experiments were conducted under dry conditions within an atmospheric environment. The test parameters encompassed the applied normal load, as well as the intensity and polarity of the electric current. To determine the overall contribution and significance of each parameter, the Analysis of Variance technique (ANOVA) was employed. The primary influencing factor on the friction coefficient of the couple was identified as the applied electrical current intensity, accounting for a substantial 46.37% impact. Additionally, the normal load exhibited a noteworthy contribution, amounting to 23.86%. In contrast, the polarity had a minor impact on the friction coefficient. In the other hand, optimization based on the Taguchi S/N ratio approach indicated that the friction coefficient is minimized when using an electrical current of 40 [A], a normal load of 3 [N], and an anodic polarity.
