Abstract
Abstract - Laser beam welding is the advanced form of welding to join pieces of metal through the use of lasers. Laser beam welding is widely replacing conventional welding. It has three parameters namely power of the beam, focal length, and beam travel speed. AISI 4130 is low carbon steel containing chromium and molybdenum as a strengthening agent. In this work, an AISI 4130 steel plate of dimension (100x70x3mm) is used. 9 samples were made by fixing focal length as constant and the power and speed of the beam are varied. Depth of penetration is directly proportional to power density. From the welded sample specimen, microstructure analysis was carried out to study the microstructure of welded samples. A tensile test was carried out to identify the effect of parameters on the laser-welded steel plates. Samples for tensile tests are prepared by wire-cut electrical discharge machining. Tensile testing is used to measure the quality of the materials. By measuring the force required to elongate a specimen up to the breaking point, weld properties can be determined.
