Abstract
Abstract - CNC Sliding Head Automate (SHA) is a Swiss-style machine used to manufacture small slender and precise parts used in the electronic and instrumentation field. Due to increased demand for high productive CNC machines, many of the CNC manufacturers are adopting both stationary and rotary tools on the same machine, so that all operations required for manufacturing can be carried out in the same machine. The spindle system of SHA plays important role in the quality of the final product. The spindle alone accounts for about 30 to 40% of stiffness at the cutting point. The power utilization capacity of machine tool spindles depends mainly on stiffness at the cutting point. This work deals with the design of a Sliding Head Automate spindle for maximum force condition. Further, we evaluate the bearing stiffness, optimum bearing span length, and deflection of the spindle nose by theoretical analysis and compare with ANSYS results. Modal analysis is carried out to evaluate natural frequencies and mode shapes of the spindle. Keywords - Spindle, Cutting Force, Stiffness, Bearing, Spindle Deflection, Static Analysis and Modal Analysis.
