Abstract |
Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) has found vast applications in over the decades due to its high strength and hardness, coupled with essential ductility and toughness. Ductile iron replaced steel in most applications. The applications of ADI include the manufacture of crankshafts, engine mounts, camshafts, track guides for bulldozers, drive mechanism for carpet looms, camshafts, gears etc. Corrosion studies play an important role in the field of production industry. Various corrosion testing methods available are electrochemical test, salt spray test, total immersion tests etc. The selection of the corrosion testing method depends upon various factors such as condition of environment, condition of exposure, type of specimen etc. The wear test will be carried out on pin on disc type machine for different condition i.e. varying speeds at constant load and varying loads at constant speed. In the present research investigation, ductile iron castings conforming according to the ISO-standard No. 1083 (1976) there are six main grades of as-cast ductile iron out of which two grades 500/7 and 600/3 was examined in as cast and heat treated condition. The ductile iron castings were subjected to standard austempering heat treatment cycle to bring about the changes in the microstructure and hence the mechanical properties, wear and corrosion properties were examined [1, 12]. Keywords - Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI), Ductile Iron (DI), Corrosion, Wear, Mechanical Properties. | |||||||||
