Abstract
The deflection characteristics of photostrictive materials(PLZT) due to incident light are of great importance to the development of Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) devices. Thus, the deflection of a PLZT sample is examined under varying light intensities incident at different locations along the sample. The deflection is measured and graphed as a function of position along the sample to present the relation between light intensity, loading location, and deflection. It was found that incident light intensity and PLZT deflection were directly proportional, while the deflection of the sample increased with the distance of the loading location from the sample supports Keywords - PLZT, MEMS, Photostriction, Deflection
