Abstract |
The melt pool geometry of different scanning patterns was investigated by using numerical simulation. Three common scanning patterns named sequential, boustrophedon, and alternated scanning strategies were tested. The results revealed that the boustrophedon strategy gives rise to asymmetric melt pool shapes at the two ends of the melt tracks. On the contrary, the sequential and alternated scanning patterns produce symmetric melt pool geometry.
