Abstract |
Numerous studies have utilized 210Pb data as chronometers for sediment accumulation and mixing in lakes, estuarine, marsh, and coastal areas, since they provide a reliable method of dating over the last 100-150 years. As applied to limnology, the data give a measurement for evaluation of accelerated eutrophication, recent history of heavy metal pollution, influx rates for contaminants, regional erosion rates, salt marsh accretion, and sediment budgets. This paper reports a 210Pbdataset acquired at Araxá city, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, as an example of some parameters that may affect its use.
