Abstract |
The decarburization of steel and gray cast iron is studied under various temperatures and comparison between them is done by means of carrying out optical microscopy tests and chemical composition test in order to establish a database of the above mentioned two materials. Furthermore, this allowed the comparison of such values to experimentally measure depth of decarburization. Two analytical methods were used; a Fourier analysis and an error-function based solution to Fick’s second law for diffusion. The analysis revealed that the predicted depth of decarburization for both the alloys. | |||||||||
