Abstract
With the goal of regeneration of tissue and organs damaged by an accident or disease, tissue engineering has conducted researches on the production of 3-D scaffolds that can play a support role so that cells can be attached and grow for the proliferation and differentiation of cells. A scaffold requires suitable pore size and porosity to increase nutrient circulation or supply of oxygen for attachment and growth of cells. Existing production methods such as solvent-casting particulate leaching, phase separation, fiber bonding etc. have the disadvantages. These methods are difficult to obtain free desired shape and certain pore size and interconnectivity between pores may not be guaranteed. To solve these problems, this study fabricated a scaffold with the 3-D shaped nose by using Alginate, one of natural polymers through Fused Deposition Modeling(FDM), one of CAD/CAM-based Solid Freeform Fabrication(SFF). This study verified regular formed pore size using an optical microscope and established the Alginate scaffold manufacturing process.
