Abstract |
In this paper, the performance of a solar-based Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) using nanofluids in UAE is investigated. The solar field is represented by a Parabolic Trough Solar Collector (PTSC) running on Therminol as basic working fluid. Silver () nanoparticles are added to Therminol to form the nanofluids. The effect of the nanoparticles on the energy output, thermal efficiency, and exergetic efficiency of the integrated PTSC-ORC is studied and compared. In addition, the effect of usingnanoparticles on the annual energy output, Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCE), and net savings of the ORC is investigated. The results show that the addition of the nanofluids increases the thermal efficiency and exergetic efficiency of the PTSC by 4% and4y% respectively. Moreover, the addition of 5 % silver (Ag) nanoparticles to Therminol increases the annual energy output of the ORC by 44, and decreases the LCE from 6.84/ to 6.70 /.
