Abstract
This paper ought to show the roles that green procurement has as a strategic alignment in the supply chain sustainability goals. Procurement is the backbone of supply chains as there is a need for a product to be bought, processed, transported and delivered to the end-user. All these stages involve procurement functions. Currently, there is a wave on sustainability in the supply chains which goes without saying that each department has to be monitored for the compliance of such activities to reduce the impact it has on the triple bottom line thus environment, social and economic. Could it be that one part of the supply chain (procurement) if properly managed can impact positively on sustainability performance? Hence the thrust of this paper to identify the roles of green procurement as a strategic alignment to implementing sustainability goals. Content analysis is adopted to collect and analyse the information. Keywords: Green Procurement, Sustainability Development Goals
