Abstract
This research studies on the factors influencing university students to choose to study Japanese by using Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University's students who registered for Japanese language in Academic Year 2016 as the samples with the objectives to study on the differences of motivations among students who choose to study Japanese language, and to study on the differences of motivations among students who choose to study Japanese language as major subject and elective subject, and then adapt it for the teaching and learning in order to make it in accordance with the target audience, as well as to promote the motivation on studying for students. From the study, it is found for the intrinsic motivation that the highest average among Japanese major students is to travel to Japan. For the extrinsic motivation, they have their intentions to develop their Japanese language skill in order to be more skillful. For the elective students, the intrinsic motivation is to travel to Japan, but for the extrinsic motivation, they think that Japanese language can be used for benefits in the future. From this result of study, the motivation of each student is acknowledged. With this reason, the instructor can apply it to promote motivation and attitude, and it can be used to create activities for teaching and learning which are consistent with students' motivations to get attention. Additionally, it can be used to encourage students for effective language learning in order to improve language learning achievement.
