Abstract |
The economic growth processes are socially determined, and the socio-economic development, as a qualitative category, must result in social and institutional progress, designating a new quality of life. Despite the growth, the significant regional differences in the economic growth level are persistent worldwide. What is more, the countries with the highest GDP level per capita are not also those which are characterised by the highest human development. Of crucial importance here is the policy regarding the distribution of the wealth produced, which, in turn, determines the use of the development potential of local economies. What is particularly important, is the quality of human capital and long-term investments in economic and social infrastructure. The importance of these factors increases with the degree of the technological advancement of economic processes.
