Abstract |
The purpose of the present study is to investigate 7th grade students’ perception of the letters in the algebraic expression. To achieve the purpose, the data was collected via semi-structured interview from 12 students and, analyzed using content analysis technique. The analysis of the data showed that many students defined letters in algebraic expression as the symbols which represents the first letter of any object or any number. For this reason, it can be concluded that most of the 7 th grade students had difficulty in understanding the meaning of letters in the algebraic expression.
