Abstract
This paper examines the impacts of authentic parental competence and communication attitude toward teacher on parent-teacher partnership of mothers with young children. The sample comprised 289 mothers with preschooler in South Korea. Survey results revealed that 1) The maternal sub factors of authentic parental competence and communication attitude toward teacher were positively correlated with parent-teacher partnership. 2) The maternal authentic parental competence had 12%, and communication attitude toward teacher had 31% statistical influence on parent-teacher partnership.3) The sub factor ‘communication satisfaction’ of maternal communication attitude was the most influential variable on ’seeking information’ and ‘adult relations’ of parent-teacher partnership. Whereas the sub factor ‘discussion about parenting’ of maternal communication attitude was the most influential variable on ‘sharing information’ of parent-teacher partnership. The findings suggest that mothers’ communication attitude toward their child’s teacher has more influence than authentic parental competence and especially the ‘communication satisfaction’ is an important factor on parent-teacher partnership. Index terms- Parent-teacher partnership, Authenticparental competence, Communication attitude, Mothers with young children.
