Abstract |
This study was accomplished in May 2005, five months prior to Vietnamese Government’s issue of Resolution 14/2005/NQ-CP in November 2005 to launch a long-term strategy for a “fundamental and comprehensive reform” in Vietnam’s tertiary education. This case study aimed to identify the impacts of assessment on learner autonomy (LA) in literature study at Vietnamese high schools. A questionnaire was conducted on 241 third-year English majors at the Faculty of English Linguistics and Literature (EF), the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). The questionnaire centered on the common practices in the literature teaching and learning, and student assessment at the students’ high schools. This paper consists of four main sections: (1) Concept of “learner autonomy”, (2) Essentials of LA in literature teaching and learning, (3) Findings, and (4) Implications for LA enhancement Index terms: impacts, assessment, learner autonomy, literature study, Vietnam | |||||||||
