Abstract |
The study aimed at finding the use of negative adjectives in pop songs during the year 1980 – 2020. The adjectives were extracted from the songs selected from the Billboard Year-End Charts from 1980 to 2020, totaling 117 songs. The analysis was done by AntFileConverter to convert .pdf files to .txt, TagAnt 1.2.0 to extract adjectives from the lyrics. AntConc program was used to identify adjectives. The results showed that between 1980 – 1999, 2010 - 2020, there were more positive adjectives used in pop song lyrics than negative adjectives, while negative adjectives were more present than positive adjectives in pop song lyrics between 2000 – 2009.
