Abstract
The concept of sustainability has affected many areas such as supply chain, technology and management. Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) is an approach that supports organizations to enhance their overall performance. This research provides a literature review of SSCM. A comprehensive definition of the SSCM is provided. To clarify some of the ambiguity in this field, the advantages, motivations, barriers and directions of SSCM are discussed. The mentioned researches reveal that promoting a strong economic bottom line, sustainability practices can be successfully implemented across companies' entire supply chain, including second and third levels of suppliers to achieve positive social and environmental impacts.
