Abstract
This research is about cultural festivals which are an important means to preserve the values of local wisdom as a cultural identity. The implementation of cultural events that are held routinely is expected to provide economic, environmental and social benefits to the community so that it can help realize sustainable tourism. T he purpose of this study is to explore and analyze the role of cultural events in creating sustainable tourism. T he method used in this research is descriptive qualitative analysis. Data obtained through observation, and interviews. Respondents were selected using a combination of purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. T he results showed that people who live in a rural setting still hold tight the values of local wisdom. Traditional ceremonies are routinely held as a form of gratitude and form of harmony between the natural and social environment. The role of special events can be a tourist attraction that can attract tourist visits and if managed properly it can be a medium to strengthen the value of tradition and socio-culture, environmental conservation, and provide welfare to the community in an integrated and sustainable manner.
