Abstract
Extensive research had been conducted regarding the Big 5 personality dimensions, motivation, pre-entry expectation and performance-approach goal, respectively, with little attention to the integration of these variables. The objective of the paper was to investigate the relationship among the Big 5 personality dimensions, motivation, pre-entry expectation and performance-approach goal of university management students in Hong Kong. The results indicated that four personality dimensions out of the Big 5, namely, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Intellect/Imagination, were positively related to pre-entry expectation. Pre-entry expectation had a positive relation to performance-approach goal. Pre-entry expectation also mediated the relationship between each of the Big 5 personality dimension and performanceapproach goal. Motivation moderated the direct relationship of pre-entry expectation and performance-approach goal. Keywords - Big 5, Personality Dimensions, Pre-entry Expectation, Performance-Goal, Motivation.
