Abstract
Stepper Motors are used in the fields of Navigation, automation and control. Speed control of stepper motor using sensors has proved to be costly and a simpler and cost effective approach is required. In this work we concentrate on using a extended Kalman Filter for the speed control of stepper motor.EKF is applied to stochastic non-linear time varying systems. Extended Kalman filter (EKF) is used because it is sturdy to external disturbances and measures non-measured states and parameters.EKF uses the state estimation technique by analyzing the currents in the windings and re-constructs the states. It provides good stabilization and a low cost alternative
