Abstract |
Generation systems including wind turbine generators, photovoltaic panels and storage batteries are used to build hybrid stand-alone generation systems that are reliable, economic and efficient. Battery energy storage is the current and typical means of smoothing wind or solar power generation fluctuations and improving the power quality. A new battery charger which is a buck-type power converter specially for the wind power system is developed. The converter provides pulsating charging current and extracts maximum power. The maximum power point tracking function is obtained by the wind turbine characteristics and the proper circuit parameter design of the power converter. Over speed protection of the wind turbine can be naturally achieved. | |||||||||
