Abstract
To clarify the role of the nickel coordination compounds on polarization resistance of NiO-GDC cermet anodes, three anode powders were prepared via nickel(II) coordination compounds. Three nickel(II) coordination compounds with Schiff base pyridine-2-ylmethylene-isonicotinohydrazide (L), were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, and Diffuse Reflection Spectroscopy (DRS). Three NiO-GDC (NGC) anode powders with this nickel coordination compounds were synthesized and evaluated by TGA, XRD, SEM, and BET methods. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy test was used to characterize the electrochemical behavior of NiO-GDC/YSZ electrode. Investigation of anode powders synthesized by nickel complexes due to their porous structure, uniform morphology, and high surface area showed that the morphology of the synthesized NGC powders affects the performance of the anodic electrode. Among the new anodic powders, NGC (3) anodic powder significantly reduced the polarization resistance and activation energy of the electrode at 800 ℃. It is found that the optimization of microstructure has an essential role in the anode polarization resistance and relevant electrochemical behavior.
