Abstract
This was the first attempt to identify the phytochemicals, chemical constituents in the crude extracts, as well as to investigate the possible antimicrobial properties of Azadirachta indica and Syzygium cumini seeds against diabetic foot pathogens in Guyana. Chemical composition, phytochemical screening and antimicrobial assay were done on the dried seed extracts of Azadirachta indica and Syzygium cumini. Antibiotic sensitivity of the isolated pathogens from DFI were determined by Standard disc diffusion method. Minimum inhibitory concentration of the plant extract was tested by the twofold serial dilution method. The various crude extracts from the seeds of Azadirachta indica and Syzygium cumini samples were analysed using a Thermo Scientific TRACE GC ULTRA (Model Perkin Elmer Clarus 500, USA). Syzygium cumini ethyl acetate extract and acetone extract showed a MIC values of 62.5–500 μg/ml and 125–500 μg/ml respectively. Azardirachta indica ethyl acetate extracts and acetone extracts showed MIC values of 62.5–500 μg/ml and 125–500 μg/ml respectively. Therefore this study identified chemical compounds and antimicrobial properties from crude extracts of Azadirachta indica and Syzygium cumini. Keywords- Azadirachta Indica; Syzygium Cumini; Jamun; Neem; Soxhlet Extractor; Chemical Composition; GC–MS Analysis .
