Abstract
Mechanical and thermal properties of Salvia macrosiphone)-based films containing different amounts of nanoclay prepared by solvent casting method were examined. This study indicates that SSM has acceptable properties which could be used for packaging and other applications also the composite films showed the highest elongation at break and tensile strength. Addition of nanoclay, increased glass transition temperature and the hydrophobicity, which makes the filmsgreat alternatives for food packaging. This study revealed that these novel edible films could have a great potential for a wide range of food products. Index Terms - Nano clay, Salvia macrosiphone, Packaging, X-raydiffraction
