There is increase in the susceptibility for diseases for adult if as a fetus (juvenile) it is exposed to altered nutritional conditions. This in turn affects the life history of adult. Drosophila is widely used as a model in dietary manipulation experiments to understand the basic physiological processes. Fly system is known to self-prioritize macronutrient level according to its physiological requirements. Here, we demonstrated that impact of feeding high protein diet during pre-adult growth phase on development time and adult physiology of the organism. Depending on the type of nutrient i.e. protein or carbohydrate rich diet, adult flies exhibited no change in the adult body size though larval duration was affected. But there was change in physiology of the organism. Lipid and water per unit dry weight were affected by the diet manipulation during the pre-adult stages. Taken together, these data demonstrates that diet change does not always affect phenotype as fly system exhibits high adaptive plasticity but may affect the physiology of the organism. Key Words- Adaptive Plasticity, Body Size, Development Time, High Protein Diet
