Abstract
The ability of Pleurotusostreatus mushroom for the biosorption of iron III from aqueous solution was investigated. Iron had been known to have negative impact on human health when accumulated in high concentration. The three parameters: initial concentration, pH and biosorbent dosage, were assessed in the experiment in terms of the effect on the biosorption. The optimum iron III biosorption was achieved 1.5 g of mushroom at pH 5, contact time 10 minutes and initial iron III concentration 100 ppm. The effect of mushroom as biosorbent in iron removal has highest magnitude in the regression analysis, but with the wider standard error margin. The coefficient of the interaction effect of pH and biosorbent concentration was observed as higher than those values of other interaction effect. The present data showed the mushroom Pleurotusostreatus might be used as an efficient biosorbent for the removal of iron. This research data could be used in further studied such as the optimization of the parameters in removing the iron concentration or mobilizing the mushroom powder for industrial use.
