Cell phone has become a necessity for almost everyone worldwide due to communication engineering advancement. Cell phones work with exceedingly high frequency (2400 - 3400 MHz) having the BTSs installed in residential locations. As of February 2022, there are about 90,000 cell towers all across Bangladesh. The cell phone subscribers in Bangladesh reached about 80 million by 2022. The 4G system is now to be replaced by 5G. This investigation explores the Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) radiated by the Base Transceiver Station (BTS)s and possible symptoms faced by the residents residing near these stations. Data of electric field strength, magnetic field strength and power density were taken at 20 BTSs designated and located at Joypurhat, Bangladesh, measured EMR values were recorded and analyzed. Epidemiological surveys were performed on people living in vicinity of BTSs. Results showed that Electrical field strength, varied between 1.378 V/m to 0.0931 V/m. The highest observed value for Power Density was 1.01 mW/m2 which is higher than prescribed limits which may cause health problems for public. Epidemiological studies show multiple symptoms while living there for extended years. This is a unique work in perspective of Bangladesh. This kind of measurement and observations are of great importance for public who live under or near the Base Stations.
