Abstract
The number of people using vehicles has increased dramatically. Traffic crashes are one of the leading causes of death around the world. In this study, crash data were obtained from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) database for several years in The U.S., and were analyzed using the Statistical Analysis System (SAS©) software based on the negative binomial model. Acrash frequency modelwas constructed for nighttime crashes considering several factors. The significant factors in the nighttime crash frequency model included but were not limited to the area type (urban/ rural), the lighting condition, the speed related, the number of lanes, and the driver’s age and gender. Keywords - Roadway Safety; Count Data; The Negative Binomial Model; FARS
