Abstract |
Abstract - The unforeseen Corona virus pandemic (COVID–19) has changed lives significantly. Its emergence and consequences have led to anxiety, fear and stress among people all over the world. The affective balance and the resilience were disrupted in a variety of ways. Most studies highlighted the impact of the pandemic on healthcare professionals, patients and other frontline workers. However, one cohort of the society did not gain much attention and these are the parents. The rapid escalation of the virus caused uncertainty about employment status, lowered personal space, sudden transition to a digital world, changes in parental roles and responsibilities, increasing influence of social media and a threat to the perception of risk. The purpose of this qualitative study was to review parental burnout in the context of the corona virus outbreak. The selected participants were 15 parents of the Indian origin. The narrative study employed the COVID-19 Burnout Scale, designed by Murat Yildirim and Fatma Solmaz and an open-ended questionnaire for data collection. Findings of this study elucidated that parental mental health was significantly impacted due to the exposure to stressors presented by the health emergency.
