Abstract
Abstract - In this paper, we present a structural and optical study of Cobalt (Co) deposited on porous silicon nanowires (pSiNWs). The nanowires were prepared by the metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) method. Characterization of the obtained nanocomposite was performed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Raman, FT-IR, UV-visible, and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. SEM and TEM images reveal that pSiNWs display a diameter of about 100 nm and a length of about 19 μm. After immersion of the pSiNWs into Co aqueous solution, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the existence of Co filling the space between the branched pSiNWs. The total reflectivity of the treated nanowires decreases lower than 2% in the spectral range from 250 to 1100 nm. Moreover, the obtained porous silicon nanowires coated with Co exhibit height PL intensity which is four-time stronger than the freshly prepared pSiNWs. We further demonstrate the feasibility of the Co-coated pSiNWs toward the photodegradation of RhB in an aqueous solution under visible irradiation. We found that the addition of Co on the nanowires allows the degradation of the organic dye and thus the efficiency of the catalyst.
