Abstract |
In this paper,a modification of the well-known Walkley-Black method is used to characterize the carbon content in liquid hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) samples. Model compounds such as fructose, levulinic acid and coumaric acid were used to evaluate the proposed experimental conditions in the applied method. It was concluded that a reaction condition of 125℃ at 3 hours maximized carbon oxidation, and by using such protocols fructose, levulinic acid, and coumaric acid showed ~100%, ~85%, and ~58% oxidation, respectively.
