Abstract
Amavata is a disease caused due to Ama and Vatadosha. It is correlated with Rheumatoid Arthritis of modern medicine. According to Ayurveda, Mandagnicauses Ama and Ama is carried by dooshitavatato various joints causing pain and swelling wherever it reaches, hence the disease is called Amavata. According to modern science, polyarthritis, morning stiffness, mild fever, symmetrical arthritis, increased ESR , and a positive Rheumatoid factor are seen in Rheumatoid arthritis.Ayurveda medicine has a good treatment protocol on this disease. Langhana, swedana, Dipana and katuaushadhis and Ksharabastis are indicated in Amavata. Cases with short history are successfully treated by Ayurveda medicine. Simhanadaguggulu, Panchakolasava, Chitrakasava, Agnitundivati, Amavateshwararasa, Amavatarivati, Ksharabasti, etc. are given in this disease. The present paper highlights the role of Ayurveda medicine in the treatment of Amavata. Keywords - Mandagni, Rheumatoid arthritis, Dipana, Ksharabasti.
