Abstract
Titanium dioxide fibers were prepared by electro spinning technique followed by calcined in the temperature range of 450C - 850C in air atmosphere. The surface morphology of the as-spun fibers showed that the micrography of the fibers are continuous and non-woven with an average diameters range from 100 to 200 nm. The amorphous as-spun fibers convert to anatase crystallized at 450C. The anatase crystallized fibers transform to rutile phase upon 850C. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface areas measured were shown dependently on calcination temperatures. Using the calcined titanium dioxide fibers as catalysts, photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue solution was carried out under Ultra-Violet light region. Approximately 2.3% of methlylene blue was degraded after 90 minutes in the absence of catalyst. Photdegradation of methylene blue using the calcined titanium dioxide fibers as a catalyst increased to 39%. According to the results, calcination temperatures influenced the photocatalytic efficiency of the mesoporous titanium dioxide fibers. Keywords - Titanium Dioxide Fibers, Electrospining, Photocatalyticefficiency, Calcination.
