Abstract
The purpose of research was to modify gelatin microparticles with coating method for controlled release of biosubstances. Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) coated gelatin (PLGA/gel) microparticles was fabricated by thermal gelation and water in oil emulsion (w/o emulsion) techniques. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was loaded PLGA/gelatin microparticles that were fabricated from emulsion technique. The surface morphologies of PLGA/gel microparticles were spherical shape and the average diameter was 12.47 ± 3.83 μm, respectively. Both of PLGA/gel microparticles were produced and the percentage of encapsulation efficiency was 94. The BSA release profiles were shown a characterized by an initial relatively rapid release period, followed by a slower release phase. The maximum cumulative released amounts of BSA from the PLGA/gel microparticles within 5 days. The result of PLGA/gel microparticles can be appropriated and applied in drug delivery system for biomedical, cosmetic and food applications. Keywords - Controlled release, Emulsion technique, Gelatin microparticles, Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid).
