Abstract
This study was aimed to observe changes in density of zinc nanocrystals in the anterior pituitary related with age including prepubertal, pubertal and postpubertal periods. For tracing of zinc autometallographhic technique was used. For this study thirty male Wistar rats were used and divided into three groups - prepubertal, pubertal and postpubertal periods. Experiment was set for 30, 60 and 90 days according to their age groups. Pituitary was removed and processed for tracing zinc nanocrystals. Pre-pubertal, pubertal and post-pubertal rats exhibited growth and morphological features. Diet consumption, body and pituitary weight increased (P<0.05) significant when comparison was carried out between prepubertal, pubertal and postpubertal rats. Moreover, in pre-pubertal period zinc nanocrystals were evident but their intensity was less as compared to pubertal period. However, moderate intensity of zinc nanocrystals was observed in pubertal period while the intensity increased during post- pubertal period. Thus, these changes reflect the requirement of zinc during the developmental stages and may play role in maintaining endocrine functions of the anterior pituitary.
