Abstract |
Use artificial bone scaffolds to treat critical size defect of bone can avoid second surgery and substantial decrease the risk of immune rejection. In order to construct such ideal scaffolds, we focus on modification calcium phosphates ceramics (CPCs), using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS)to treat hydroxyapatite(HA) powder. It has been found that silicon could improve bioactivity and stimulate osteoinduction, but also benefit to cell and protein adhesion. The phase structures would affect the in-vivo degradation and biological affinity. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of HA/TEOS ratio and sol-gel immersion time onfinal phase structures of CPCs. The results show that the weight of micron-size HA powder increased with soaking time of sol-gel process. XRD results show the powder contained mainly beta tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP)andHA after sintering process. The HA/β-TCPratio of CPCs is about 40/60, calculated by aMAUD software. The results are helpful for developingCPCs bone scaffolds for tissue engineering. Keywords - Tissue engineering, Hydroxyapatite, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), x-ray diffraction (XRD) | |||||||||
