Abstract |
The effect against bacteria of hexane, ethylacetate, water and methanolic extract of Terminalia catappa L. leaf extract was employed by disc diffusion method. The water extracts displayed the strongest inhibition zones of 9.8- 10.3 mm, 10.3-13.4 mm, 24.2-24.3 mm, 11.5-12.2 mm and 10.1-13.2 mm against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922T, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923T, Propionibacterium acnes ATCC 6919T, S. epidermidis ATCC 12228T, and microbial odor isolates, respectively, while hexane, ethylacetate and methanolic extract were devoid of antimicrobial activity. The minimal inhitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration were determined. The MIC concentrations were ranged from 1.25-5mg/ml and 5-10 mg/ml for MBC concentration. Based on the results, the leaf extract of T. catappa L. showed the most potential against P. acne ATCC 6919T. Therefore, it might be used as the important ingredient of antiacne product in the future Index Terms -Terminalia catappa L ., anti-acne, antibacterial Anti-odor | |||||||||
