Abstract |
Human beings have an enormous impact on the natural environment, and ultimately on each other. These impacts are closely related with the consumption patterns, habits and also economic conditions of our own. For the last tree decades researchers developed many methods to evaluate the impact of humans on environment. One of the methods is calculating ecological footprint. The Ecological Footprint (EF) is defined as "the area of productive land and water ecosystems required producing the resources that the population consumes and assimilate the wastes that the population produces, wherever on Earth the land and water is located. The Ecological Footprint is derived by tracking how much biologically productive area it takes to absorb a population’s carbon dioxide emissions and to generate all the resources it consumes. The main objective of the study is to find out EF of university students who are studying at School of Tobacco Expertise in Manisa Celal Bayar University, Turkey. The data were collected via a survey study which was conducted to all active students. The derived data was analyzed online EF calculator. The result of the survey was compared to the recent EF report of Turkey to evaluate the variations. Keywords - Ecological footprint, environment, university students, Turkey | |||||||||
