Abstract |
We have developed a direct adsorption and solidification technique by using hydroxyapatite as an adsorbent and binder. In this simplified method, the hydroxyapatite was synthesized, applied to adsorb cobalt and directly immobilized just after drying the adsorbent. Green pellets prepared at low pressure of 100 MPa and sintered at 500˚C and 1150 ˚C. More than 90% relative densitywith an excellent hardness of 3.62 ± 0.32 GPa was achieved in case of 1150˚C. Furthermore, the results from X-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy showed the successful sintering at 1150˚C as compared to 500˚C.No chemical treatments and additional binders were used during the adsorption and solidification process. Therefore, this direct waste adsorption and solidification technique could be highly efficient to reduce secondary waste generated during decontamination processes.
