Abstract
Intelligent Clamping System has the ability to clamp the work piece with required force without deforming the work piece. The components required for intelligent clamping system are sensors, actuators and an electronic controller. This paper presents a review of an intelligent clamping system for drilling machine in which sensors are used to detect the work piece presence and clamping/ unclamping is achieved by pneumatic cylinder, which is operated by directional control valve. A logic controller like PLC is used to control the working of intelligent clamping system. This system can be helpful in imparting flexibility to conventional clamping system and also helps in achieving increased productivity and better quality.
