Abstract
In India most of the rivers comprise alluvial deposits. During the monsoon the river banks are eroded and changed the river bank. Use of permeable structures is a cost effective alternative for the bank protection works. A dampening action on velocity of flow is achieved by permeable structures. The sediment transport capacity of a flow mainly depends on velocity. Therefore, the dampening of velocity results in deposition of sediment. In this present study, the effect of porcupine screen on various flow parameters such as velocity, depth etc. is investigated in an OCF in a Laboratory Tilting type channel. Index Terms— River training, Erosion, Porcupine screen, sediment control.
