Abstract
The foundations function is to transfer the load to the earth (soil) in order to provide safety, dependability and workability to the structure. Raft foundations has various benefits suchlike higher permittable bearing capacity and downgrade settlement with reference to footing foundations.. Here, the load magnitude for members of the rafts is immeasurably more as oppose to the loads imposed by the members of the roofs and the floors. A raft slab should hold up substantially additional storeys along the span / depth ratios for raft members would be appreciably distinct amidst of roof elements enumerated in the codes of practice for the floors and the roofs. The design of raft foundation for 8 storey multilevel building near Golf View Apartment, Sushant Golf City At Lucknow for which modelling has been carried out by standard computer program on STAAD Pro and design of foundation has been carried out separately by hand. The design is carried out according to IS 13920: 1993, IS 456:2000 and SP 16: 1980. The effect and importance of each design parameter on effective depth of raft, steel reinforcement in two directions and depth of footing has been studied. It was found that the change of properties of concrete and steel has a small amount of influence on a total cost of raft. The dimensions of the raft take the same dimensions of the structure within the limits of the allowable bearing capacity. The saving in total cost was about (6% - 7%) with the comparison of conventional design procedure Keywords - Raft Foundation, Medium Rise Building, Vertical Loads, Simple Design Method
