Abstract
This paper describes a preliminary study in support of ongoing research on estimation of Live Load Surcharge on Bridge Abutment & Retaining Walls. This paper presents a review of suitability of present live load surcharge codal provisions of IRC 6:2016 as compared to related codal provisions given in AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. Live load surcharge mainly accounts for Vehicular loading. The content includes discussion regarding changes made in codal provisions of live load surcharge with in revisions of both IRC 6 and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications followed by the discussion regarding the theories used to get these codal provisions. Lastly, the observations are stated which will be used to carry out further detailed research. Keywords - Lateral Pressure, Vehicular Load, Live Load Surcharge, Equivalent Height of Soil
