Abstract
Various methods are used for collecting and refining of waste water. Sea outfall systems are prefered through the assimilation capacity of seas as an economical choice rather than refinery systems. If sea outfall systems are choosed then the location of the sea outfall must be determined to prevent that the wastewater comes back to the coastal zone and deposit in the ecosystem. Since there are any long term measurements of wave height and current in Turkey, long term wind data are used to predict wave heights and current velocities due to wind effect with numerical models. These numerical models can simulate wave transformations, currents forced by wind, tide and/or density change and transport of pollutants successfully. Based on regulation of water pollution control, bacterial concentration needs to be less than a certain value in the protection area. The main effect is coastal currents forced by wind on dilution and transport of waste waters in closed or semiclosed coastal regions like Turkish coasts. Accurate predictions of wind and wave climates and currents are very important in sea outfall planning. In this study, HYDROTAM-3D, which is GIS based, cloud computing supported three dimensional hydrodynamic and transport model, is used. It simulates the path of wastewater cloud from sea bottom to sea surface or trapping level and dilutions. Using meteorological data, wind and wave climates, wave propagation, current pattern due to wind, wave and density change, near and far field dilutions are numerically modeled to understand hydrodynamic and transport mechanisms in the coastal region around Edremit Zeytinli sea outfall. Keywords - Near field dilution, far field dilution, pollutant transport model, HYDROTAM-3D
